Our Malleable Iron 90 Degree Street Elbow uses one male and one female threaded connection to create a compact 90-degree change in pipeline direction.
Unlike a standard Female × Female elbow, the male end of a street elbow can screw directly into another female-threaded fitting, valve or component. This can eliminate an additional pipe nipple, reduce the number of threaded joints and save installation space.
Manufactured from ASTM A197/A197M malleable iron to ASME B16.3, the current range covers 1/8" to 6" (DN6–DN150). Black and galvanized finishes and NPT/BSP thread requirements can be supplied according to market and project specifications.
For wholesalers, distributors, contractors and OEM brands, street elbows can be consolidated with our complete range of Malleable Iron Pipe Fittings for bulk and recurring purchasing programs.

A street elbow is a threaded elbow with:
one male threaded end + one female threaded end.
This is the main difference between a street elbow and a conventional Female × Female elbow.
The male end can connect directly into another female fitting, which can reduce the number of components required in a piping assembly.
For example:
Standard connection:
Female elbow + nipple + female fitting
Street elbow connection:
Male/Female street elbow + female fitting
Where the layout allows it, this can provide:
• Fewer threaded joints
• Less installation space
• Fewer individual fittings
• Simpler assembly
• More compact piping layouts
This is why M/F street elbows are frequently used close to valves, tees, equipment ports and other threaded fittings.
The two fittings change pipe direction by 90 degrees, but their connection configurations are different.
| Feature | 90° Street Elbow | Standard 90° Elbow |
|---|---|---|
| Typical Connection | Male × Female | Female × Female |
| Direction Change | 90° | 90° |
| Direct Connection to Female Fitting | Yes | Requires male pipe/nipple |
| Installation Space | More compact in some layouts | Standard |
| Typical Use | Fitting-to-fitting connection | Pipe-to-pipe connection |
For a conventional F/F connection or reducing elbow, see our Malleable Iron 90 Degree Elbow.
The Male × Female 90 Degree Elbow is the configuration normally referred to as a street elbow in international purchasing.
Common buyer descriptions include:
• Malleable Iron 90 Degree Street Elbow
• 90° M/F Street Elbow
• Male Female Threaded Elbow
• NPT Street Elbow
• Galvanized Street Elbow
For distributors, connection type should always be included in the SKU description to avoid confusion with ordinary Female × Female elbows.
Our current product series also includes a Male × Male 90 Degree Elbow.
This fitting has external threads on both ends and is designed to connect two compatible female-threaded fittings or components at a 90-degree angle.
It should not normally be described simply as a “street elbow,” because overseas buyers generally understand street elbow to mean a Male × Female fitting.
For RFQs and product labels, we recommend using:
Malleable Iron Male × Male 90 Degree Elbow
or
Double Male Threaded 90 Degree Elbow
This distinction makes bulk purchasing and SKU management clearer.
Black malleable iron elbows are commonly selected for compatible gas, compressed-air, steam, oil and general industrial piping systems.
They can be ordered with tees, couplings and other black threaded fittings for distributor inventory programs.
Galvanized street elbows use a zinc protective layer to improve corrosion resistance for suitable water, outdoor, humid and building-service applications.
For bulk galvanized orders, both coating quality and thread condition are important because excessive zinc around threaded areas can interfere with assembly.
Thread compatibility should be confirmed before production.
NPT is widely used in North American threaded piping systems, while BSP/BSPT fittings are commonly specified in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and other markets.
NPT and BSP threads should not be treated as interchangeable.
For importers serving different regions, thread configurations can be separated by:
• Product SKU
• Casting or product marking
• Carton label
• Barcode
• Packaging specification
This helps reduce the risk of mixed-thread inventory during distribution.
A Malleable Iron Street Elbow is particularly useful where pipeline space is limited or where an elbow must connect directly into another threaded fitting.
Typical locations include:
• Connection to threaded tees
• Valve connections
• Pump connections
• Manifolds
• Equipment ports
• Regulators
• Gas piping assemblies
• Compressed-air distribution systems
If the system instead requires a more gradual 90-degree directional change, our Malleable Iron Long Radius 90 Degree Elbow is designed for a longer sweep geometry.
Our 90 Degree Street Elbows are supplied for commercial procurement rather than small retail orders.
Typical buyers include:
• Pipe fitting wholesalers
• Plumbing distributors
• Building material importers
• Gas equipment suppliers
• Fire protection distributors
• HVAC wholesalers
• Industrial supply companies
• EPC and MEP contractors
• Private-label fitting brands
Multiple street elbow sizes can be combined in one purchase order together with standard elbows, tees, couplings, unions and other fitting types.
For piping layouts requiring a smaller directional change, buyers can also add our Malleable Iron 45 Degree Elbow to the same purchasing program.
For large-volume buyers, consistent threads and dimensions across every production batch are critical.
Our quality control focuses on the characteristics that directly affect installation.
Material and casting conditions are controlled to reduce defects such as cracking, porosity and dimensional inconsistency.
Male and female threads are inspected for critical dimensions and alignment to reduce:
• Cross-threading
• Difficult installation
• Insufficient engagement
• Misalignment
• Leakage caused by poor thread fit
The 90-degree orientation and critical connection dimensions are inspected to support consistent installation across bulk production.
Finished fittings undergo pressure-related inspection to identify leakage or through-wall casting defects before shipment.
Black or galvanized finishes are checked before packing for consistent appearance and surface protection.
For wholesalers and established fitting brands, commercial customization can include:
• Product marking
• Customer branding
• Carton design
• Barcode and SKU labels
• M/F and M/M identification
• NPT/BSP differentiation
• Black or galvanized finish
• Mixed-size packaging
• Combined fitting orders
If your purchasing program also requires straight connections, Malleable Iron Threaded Couplings can be consolidated into the same shipment.

This allows distributors to build a broader threaded fitting range through one purchasing source rather than managing separate suppliers for each fitting type.
It is a 90-degree threaded elbow with one male and one female connection. The male end allows the fitting to connect directly into another female-threaded fitting or component.
In pipe fitting terminology, a street elbow generally refers to an elbow with male threads on one end and female threads on the other, rather than female threads on both ends.
A normal threaded elbow commonly has Female × Female connections. A street elbow has Male × Female connections, allowing direct fitting-to-fitting installation in many piping layouts.
Normally, no. Street elbow usually refers to an M/F fitting. A fitting with male threads on both ends is better described as a Male × Male 90 Degree Elbow or Double Male Threaded Elbow.
The current product range covers 1/8" to 6", corresponding to DN6–DN150.
